Overview
HYPORT Duqm is a large-scale green hydrogen and green ammonia production project planned for the Special Economic Zone at Duqm on Oman’s central coast. The project is being developed as a joint venture between OQ Group’s alternative energy subsidiary and international partners, aiming to produce green hydrogen through electrolysis powered by dedicated solar and wind energy installations. The green hydrogen will be converted to green ammonia for export to international markets seeking decarbonization feedstocks for industry, power generation, and maritime fuel. HYPORT Duqm takes advantage of Duqm’s combination of excellent renewable energy resources, port infrastructure for ammonia export, and available land for large-scale solar and wind farms.

Significance for Vision 2040
HYPORT Duqm is a flagship project for Vision 2040’s green hydrogen strategy, demonstrating how Oman can leverage its natural endowments in solar and wind energy alongside existing industrial and port infrastructure to create a new export industry. The project directly supports the Carbon Neutrality 2050 commitment by developing zero-emission energy production capabilities. Green hydrogen and ammonia exports represent a pathway to replacing declining hydrocarbon export revenues with sustainable energy revenues, making HYPORT central to Vision 2040’s economic diversification narrative. The project creates skilled employment in renewable energy and hydrogen technology, builds domestic expertise in an emerging global industry, and attracts international capital and technology partnerships that enhance Oman’s competitiveness in the global clean energy market.
