Corruption Perceptions Index

Definition of the Transparency International Corruption Perceptions Index and Oman's governance performance.

Corruption Perceptions Index

Definition

The Corruption Perceptions Index is an annual ranking published by Transparency International that scores and ranks countries based on how corrupt their public sectors are perceived to be. Scores range from zero, indicating high corruption, to one hundred, indicating very clean governance.

Context

Oman typically scores in the mid-range on the CPI, performing better than many developing countries but below top-ranked Nordic nations. The government has established anti-corruption bodies and enacted legislation to combat bribery and improve public-sector transparency.

Example

Oman’s State Audit Institution and the anti-corruption unit investigate allegations of public-sector corruption, and cases resulting in prosecution demonstrate the government’s commitment to accountability and transparent governance.
