What is Healthy Life Expectancy? Definition and Oman Data

Healthy Life Expectancy (HALE) measures the expected years of life in full health — adjusted for years lived with disability or disease. It is a more informative health measure than simple life expectancy.

Definition

Published by the WHO, HALE combines mortality data (from life tables) with morbidity and disability data (from Global Burden of Disease studies). A HALE of 65.6 years means the average Omani can expect 65.6 years in full health at birth.

Oman’s Vision 2040 Data

65.6 years (2017) → 67 years target (2030) → 70 years target (2040)
